Foie Gras
The liver on the left is from a duck force-fed by the foie gras industry; the liver on the right is a healthy duck's liver. The foie gras industry repeatedly force-feeds enormous amounts of food into the stomachs of ducks and geese. The birds are then killed, and their diseased, bloated livers are sold as an expensive appetizer in upscale restaurants. While the price of foie gras in restaurants is high, the price that ducks and geese pay for this "delicacy of despair" is much, much higher. |
